Originally established in 1889 and purchased in 1927 by Vincenzo Rizzo, an immigrant from Sicily, this local winery, straddling
Rancho Bernardo and the neighboring city of Poway, is the oldest winery in the area. This winery includes a vineyard, a tasting
room, a restaurant (the Café Merlot), various small shops and studios, a private patio area for weddings, and at its far end, the
official museum of the Rancho Bernardo Historical Society. To this day, the winery is still owned and operated by the Rizzo
family.
